The Vertical Horizon

The essence of the creative oeuvre of Jakub Sýkora has in recent years passed through an intriguing genesis, grounded on principles of geometry, reinterpretation of signs, and modulation of space. The artist does not understand traditional linear articulation as a mere quotation of segments, intersections, and geometric shapes that eventually shape the composition and the pictorial plane; instead, within it he effaces the differences between the vertical and the horizontal. What is most vital for him is the immediate authorial language in and of itself. The process is not conditioned by the outcome, in the sense of its content; he patiently investigates and more significantly pushes forward the previously discovered and tested. Creation, in his own stance, is an open process, a platform and organism that forever remains alive.
