Antonie Stanová

Curated by Jan Dotřel

Antonie Stanová (*1995) developed her own artistic handwriting while studying at the Academy of Arts and Crafts, from which she recently graduated successfully. Already during her studies she established a successful collaboration with the Kvalitář gallery, where she prepared her first solo exhibition Its Oh So Quiet (2019). The drawings on low-graphite canvas from this period depicted bones, eyes and other morphologies of the human body, which, in addition to the paintings, were complemented by objects and statues in the installation. Antonie Stanová prepared for her second comprehensive solo exhibition Maculata at Galerie NoD (2020) during the past quarantine period in 2020-2021. The presented canvases were larger in size than is usual for the artist, and there was a noticeable shift from more figurative works towards abstraction. The artist will present her latest approaches to painting in the company of Bohumila Grögerová, at the exhibition entitled I Tried to Tell Ya Something through the Phone at the Kvalitář gallery. Antonia Stanová's work has also been presented in the collective exhibitions Aligned at the Bottom Edge of the Picture (Galerie Jelení, 2021), New Selection (Galerie Kvalitář 2020 - 2021), The Hills Have Eyes (Hot Dock project space, Bratislava 2019), Extra Care (DOX+, ARCHIP, Prague 2018), 8/8 (ARCHIP, Prague 2017).

Antonia Stanová's paintings look like a convoluted maze composed of abstract signs. Individual fragments, however, carry recognizable information that resembles a personal diary entry. Their connection creates random narratives and loose associations. Her painting is characterized by a processual approach to recording environmental influences.
