The work of Michaela Vélová Maupicová (1982–2018), whose life was tragically cut short, is marked by a perception and thematisation of certain boundaries and borderlines, both between media and between artistic disciplines and genres. Yet the foundation of her work is in drawing. Drawing as an immediate record of an idea; a movement; a rhythm. But also drawing as a means of lively and sequential associations that come together to create distinctive structural worlds on the borders of corporeality, the movement of consciousness, and abstraction. It is also the source of the artist’s feeling for thematic cycles and series and the principle of motivic variation in general. With this exhibition, the Kvalitář Gallery aims to memorialise the exceptional work of Michaela Vélová Maupicová through a selection of works typical of her output: paintings and drawings made between 2012 and 2017.
