The International Symposium of Ceramics in Bechyne 1966-2018
11. 10. - 22. 11. 2019
Curator: Veronika Rollová, Eva Pelechová
The International Symposium of Ceramics in Bechyně was founded in 1966. It became a platform for artists from various parts of the world, divided by the Iron Curtain, who could focus on creative experiments with clay during the month they spent together. In 2018, the 28th year of the symposium took place. The exhibition presents works created in Bechyně during last summer in dialogue with works from the 1960s to the 1980s. The word “contact” in the title of the exhibition thus refers not only to the confrontation of contemporary authors with the works of their predecessors and to the international meetings of artists but also to the relationship between “fine” and “applied” art. The exhibition, by looking back to the past and by reflecting broader contexts of the foundation of the symposium, opens a new era of its existence that will focus on searching for new definitions of the symposium as a platform for work created as part of a group of artists as well as on the possibilities of working with a specific material within the context of contemporary art.
