Markéta Kratochvílová & Tadeáš Podracký for Kvalitář

Markéta Kratochvílová, Tadeáš Podracký

10/22/2015 – 11/20/2015

On the occasion of Designblok 2015 the creative duo of Tadeáš Podracký and Markéta Kratochvílová are preparing an installation reflecting the “essence” of China, which has become their studio in the last month. The opening in the Kvalitář Showroom will take place on Thursday 22 October at 19:00 and the exhibition will run until 20 November 2015.

An atypical object that the artists are preparing for the Kvalitář Showroom will evoke both the mysterious cabinet of curiosities and an intimate diary of their trip to the Far East. The designer will show side-by-side everyday objects such as a bamboo flute which still enjoys great respect in China. In this case, using his distinctive style, Tadeáš transformed it into classical vases which do not lack the hallmark of exoticism. Markéta Kratochvílová remained “faithful to the body” and has not left her most natural means of expression, which she considers to be a jewel. Items that during their internship have been transformed in the spirit of current trends, taking into account local traditions will be complemented with components associating genius loci of Chinese handicraft skills.
“Among other things, 4 vases were produced in China, while i was inspired not only by the programme’s assignment, but also by bamboo forests and the trees on their own. This is reflected in the shapes and surface finish of the vases,” Tadeáš Podracký describes his latest work. “In workshops, i was discovering very expensive and valuable materials, such as jade, as well as common ones such as bamboo wood or copper. i have decided to combine them with found ready-made objects, thus creating a certain record or the essence of contemporary China. For this reason, in the Kvalitář Showroom, i exhibit a collection of necklaces, the “witnesses” of bizarre bittersweet beauty of China,” adds Markéta kratochvílová to the selection for the showroom.

Tadeáš Podracký and Markéta Kratochvílová are graduates of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (the Studios of Concept – Object – Meaning K.O.V. and Glass), who attracted substantial attention to them mainly through their diploma theses Dioscuri (Tadeáš Podracký) and Enfant Terrible (Markéta Kratochvílová), for which they were awarded the Czech Grand Design Prize this year in March.

The exhibition takes place within Designblok 2015.
